Synopsis

Drama and documentary series which dramatises problems with children and divorce and then uses further programmes in the series to discuss the points raised. Five programmes, available on three cassettes, which explore aspects of divorce through the eyes of children and young people. Aims to show that divorce is not a single event but a process through which a child has to adapt to a whole new set of circumstances. The first two programmes present a drama scripted on the basis of interviews with children. The third programme features teenagers, who reflect on their feelings during the parents' break-ups, their difficulties in adapting to the separation and to their parents' new relationships. In the fourth programme parents discuss their problems in providing comfort and support for their children during the break-up and after. The fifth programme features people who work with divorce in different ways, discussing its effects on children. They are Dr. Anton Obholzer, consultant psychiatrist at the Tavistock Clinic, Pat McBain, a solicitor, Michael Day from the Family Courts Service and Janet Minton, a primary school head.
