Reviews the development of biological pest control, telling the story of current projects throughout the world, ranging from the cultivation of spotless tomatoes in Europe to the rice that feeds millions in South East Asia. Shows how biological control is eradicating the new World screw worm, a sinister pest whose maggots feed on the living flesh of animals and humans alike. Past errors are also mentioned, such as the importation of the cane toad in Australia in the 1930s which wreaked havoc on the local ecosystem and became a pest itself.
