First programme in three-part series within the WITHOUT WALLS slot which question the sexulaity of three great figures in art and literature: William Shakespeare, Michelangelo and D.H. Lawrence. The first programme, hosted by Simon Callow, finds evidence for William Shakespeare's alleged homosexuality in his works, with quotations from the sonnets, OIthello and Coriolanus. Actress Juliet Stevenson and various academics talk about this aspect of Shakespeare, how homosexuality featured in Elizabethan/Jacobean England, and how such information has been suppressed in the past.
