Documentary about the creation of the Volkswagen Beetle, now with a loveable image, but orignally intended to be a symbol of Nazism. Hitler himself suggested a design to Ferdinand Porsche. The Volkswagen company denies that production took place during the war, but the programme reveals evidence that forced labour from Poland, Holland and Russia was used to bolster the production effort, and interviews survivors. An ingenious marketing campaign in the 1950s totally turned around the image of the Volkswagen in the USA, and it has never lost its popularity, becoming something of a counter-culture statement in the 1960s.
