It was assumed by many in the West that tuberculosis had been eradicated, despite its continued presence in the Third World. The return of the disease in a more virulent form in the US, and its appearance in a new alliance with AIDS in Africa has led to a re-examination of the problem, which is also beginning to recur in the UK. The programme reports on the current situation.
