Sharpe's Company (1994)

Film details

Synopsis

Sharpe's Colonel is badly wounded in a siege, and Sharpe loses his unratified captaincy when the new Colonel Windham arrives, accompanied by another Captain who has just purchased his commission. Sharpe meets up with Teresa again and learns that he is a father, with a daughter, Antonia, in the city of Badajoz they are about to besiege. Teresa returns there to spy on the French and look after Antonia. A young Ensign, William Matthews, also arrives with a detachment of reinforcements - amongst them the evil and mad Sergeant Obidiah Hakeswill, who is Sharpe's enemy of old. He brutalises and terrorises the troops and attempts to rape Teresa. He is thwarted in this but is determined to have his way and his revenge on Sharpe. Sharpe and his men are tied down in digging trenches and Sharpe is not permitted his request to lead the Forlorn Hope detachment. Hakeswill frames Sergeant Harper for theft after pilfering from the officer's baggage, planting the picture frame which held the portrait of Windham's beloved wife in Harper's kit. Harper is demoted and flogged. During night manoeuvres Hakeswill takes a shot at Sharpe, but kills Matthews who gets in the way. During the fierce battle to breach the walls Sharpe and his men succeed in pushing their way through, after Captain Rymer is shot so Sharpe can take over command again. Price runs to where Teresa is living to protect her from looters before Sharpe can arrive, but is pushed aside and killed by Hakeswill. Sharpe arrives in time to save her, but Hakeswill manages to escape.
