The discovery of the remains of a woolly mammoth in the Siberian Arctic in 1993, revitalised the debate about the disappearance of so much of the world's mega-fauna at the end of the last Ice Age. Presents evidence showing that mammoths co-existed with human hunters, at a time when their habitat was disappearing, as an explanation for the extinction of the mammoth, a fate which now threatens its last surviving relative - the elephant.
