LATE SHOW special examining how the works of Charles Dickens have been served by television adaptations over the years, from the 1950s to the current production of Martin Chuzzlewit, looking at the changes in style and approach. Also, comments from directors, producers, actors and academics on both the easiness and difficulties that are involved in adapting Dickens' novels. Includes extracts from a variety of films and TV productions. Academics contributing include: Steve Connor, Robert Giddings, Margaret Reynolds and John Carey, and the writer Claire Tomalin. Arthur Lowe (Micawber) and Martin Jarvis (Uriah Heep) are seen in the 1974 version and Ian McKellen (David) in a 1960s version.
