[nb the synopsis, presumable dating from the early planning stages of the film, originally read as follows: A personal look at Chinese cinema by film director Shu Kei, framed as an imaginary inquisition in 1997, with Communist officials challenging Shu Kei himself to account for his work with films that they consdiered subversive and illegal. His answers - illustrated with film clips and other testimony - range back across Chinese film history.]
