Synopsis

Part five of the nine part drama series. It is now 1974 and the four friends are finding life tough. Nicky is back in Newcastle, living in the decrepit high rise flat that he first found for Tosker and Mary. He runs a radical magazine and is reconciled with his family again. He begins to help Eddie Wells in his ambition to be an independent Labour MP after he fails official selection by the local Labour party. During the election campaign Nicky begins to rekindle his relationship with Mary. Tosker is uninterested in Mary's political career or studies to be a solicitor and his business and other interests pull him away from his family. Geordie is released from jail and seeks revenge on Barratt, but the latter is no longer the King of Soho and before Geordie can reach him Barratt is arrested by the police as part of a major investigation and crackdown on corruption in the London Met. Tapes held by Barratt are instrumental in revealing all about the corruption and alliance between the police and pornographers, and the main policemen involved are arrested. Geordie returns to Newcastle unaware of the election and gatecrashes Eddie Wells's victory party. For the first time in years, Mary, Tosker, Nicky and Geordie are together again.
