Television production of W. Somerset Maugham's play, set in Cairo. Middle-aged Sir Arthur Little, who works for the British Consular, has recently married the young twenty year old Violet. However, Violet falls in love with Little's handsome young Secretary, Ronny. Violet confesses her love and begs her husband to have Ronny transferred; however, Ronny is the best person for the job in Cairo and Little risks his own happiness and marriage for the sake of the job.
