Synopsis

Based on the novel `Jakob der Lügner' by Jurek Becker. Set in Nazi-occupied Poland in 1944, the story of a middle-aged Jewish café proprietor who, brings hope to his ghetto neighbours by passing on news about an impending Allied victory which he accidentally overheard on a radio in German headquarters. Rumours spread that Jakob himself has a radio, an offence punishable by death.
