Synopsis

Drama. The film's premise is based on a screenplay Akira Kurosawa had just completed at the time of his death, and concerns an 18th century swordsman, a `ronin', who cannot settle in any one place for any length of time, and so wanders the countryside with his wife. When he wins a prize fight, the local lord offers him the job of fencing master, but when the ronin beats the lord in another contest, having been challenged by him to do so, he feels sure he has lost yet another job.
