The notion, first propounded by Plato, that the advanced civilisation of a large island lost in a great flood was the single source that gave birth to all civilisation, has fascinated people for centuries. The first of two programmes analysing the arguments for and against the existence of Atlantis. Sets out to prove scientifically how monuments, writing and farming - the indicators of complex society - came to evolve on both sides of the Atlantic.
