Explores a rare psychological condition - a form of body dysmorphia - which affects both men and women and causes the sufferers to want a healthy limb or limbs of their bodies to be amputated. Follows a year in the lives of two such people who are determined to have their limbs surgically removed, and follows the process they go through to try and achieve their goal. The idea of such surgery is highly controversial, and, when the programme was made, there was only one surgeon in Britain who had been prepared to perform such operations. Contributors to the programme include: Robert Smith, Consultant General Surgeon, Falkirk and District Royal Infirmary, Dr Russell Reid, consultant psychiatrist and Dr Richard Fox, general psychiatrist.
