The Railway Children (2000)

Film details

Synopsis

Period drama. TV film of the children's novel by E. Nesbit set in the early 20th century. Bobbie, Phyllis, Peter and their mother have to leave their affluent suburban home when their father goes away. They move out to the country and live a more frugal lifestyle. Nearby is a main railway line and station, and the children make friends with Perks the porter and have several adventures, including preventing an accident by stopping a train after a landslide on the line, taking a frightened Russian refugee under their wing and rescuing a boy who has injured himself in a tunnel. They also make friends with The Old Gentleman, who owns the railway, and who is enlisted by Bobbie to help her father when she finds out that the latter has, in reality, been falsely arrested and tried for spying.
