On a winter night in 373 BC, the Greek city of Helike was destroyed by a massive earthquake and tidal wave. Believed to be the inspiration behind Plato's Atlantis myth, archaeologists had been searching for the lost city for decades when, in 2001, archaeologist Dora Katsonopoulou and physicist Steven Soter, after many false leads, uncovered ruins from classical Greece, not under the sea as expected, but on land. Other contributors include: Dr Robert Stieglitz (Rutgers University); Prof Harold Edgerton; Paul Kronfield (Intec Engineering Inc); Dr Iain Stewart (Brunel University); Dr Richard Collier (University of Leeds); and Carlos Alvarez Zarikian (University of Miami).
