Explores the latest scientific discoveries relating to the mummified body of a lone 5,000 year-old Bronze Age man found in September 1991 in the Tyrolean Alps on the Italian-Austrian border. Mummified by the cold, his clothes, tools, weapons and even traces of his last meal found in his stomach were all well preserved. For years, scientists had meticulously studied this unique find and finally announced that the frozen man died when he lost his way in the mountains. The story of `Oetzi' took a new twist recently when an arrowhead was found buried near his heart, suggesting he may have been murdered. Contributors include: Drs Edward Egarter Vigl and Paul Gostner (Bolzano General Hospital); German hikers Erika and Helmut Simon who found the body; Prof Konrad Spindler (University of Innsbruck); Prof Horst Seidler (University of Vienna); Dr Wolfgang Recheis (University Hospital, Innsbruck); Prof Markus Egg (Museum of Germanic History, Mainz); Prof Peter Vanezis (forensic pathologist); and Prof Klaus Oeggl (Institute of Botany, Innsbruck).
