- Room 237 Alternative
Documentary in which five interviewees describe theories they have about secret messages hidden in the Stanley Kubrick film 'The Shining'. These theories include the idea that the film is an admission of American guilt about the treatment of Native Americans; that it is about the minotaur and the labyrinth; that it addresses people's difficulty in dealing with history in general and with the enormity of the Holocaust in particular; and that it is Kubrick's admission that he filmed the footage of the moon landing and subsequently put clues to this effect into 'The Shining'. There is also an examination of the floor plan of the Overreach Hotel in which the film's story is set, with maps one interviewee has created showing where the film's events take place, and a look at what happens when 'The Shining' is shown forwards and backwards at the same time.
