It’s an impossible task to select only ten absolute favourites, as there are at least 100 films that could easily make it to the list. That’s why I made my selection by directors, masters whom I’ve admired since I first saw their films and who have in some way, directly or unconsciously, influenced my own work. I made the list in about 30 seconds and when looking at it I was disappointed that Powell, Lang, Kurosawa, Welles, Godard and many many other masters were missing. Maybe they’ll show up on my next list. I selected the films only after choosing the directors and could have easily made other choices, too.
