Comments

I chose films that I love – some perhaps beyond reason, some perhaps because they operate beyond reason and demonstrate cinema’s affinity for the loops and shortcuts of the mind as it really works, which is not like a roadmap or a recipe. Some take pleasure and happiness seriously, some are about the grotesque absurdity of war. I skewed my choices towards the new and the less-canonical, but I regret the absence of Almodóvar and Hitchcock.
