About the database

The BFI Film & TV Database provides information on British and international film and television titles - as well as people, music groups, organisations and events dating back to the beginning of film production.

The BFI - through our library and archive - has been documenting information on film and television productions since we were established in 1933. Much of this information is now freely searchable through the Film & TV Database.

Details of television programmes broadcast in the UK have been selectively added to the database since the 1960s and information about earlier broadcasts is being added retrospectively.

Please note that the Film & TV Database is an information resource, and is not a record of the BFI’s archival holdings of film and television programmes.  To find out more about the BFI National Archive and access to the collections, please see BFI National Archive.

The Film & TV Database is continually updated from trusted sources by our specialist staff and this work contributes to a range of BFI activities including the reviews in our magazine Sight & Sound and screenings at BFI Southbank.

Your feedback about this database will be integral to its evolution.
