Q: Can you help me locate or hire a DVD, video or print of a film or television programme?
A: The bfi website provides advice on video and DVD availability in Britain. If the title is not available and you need to access it for the purpose of research, you may be able to arrange a research viewing at the bfi's central London office.
A: The bfi website contains catalogues of film prints, DVDs and videos for hire from the National Film & Television Archive.
A: People or organisations with a legitimate connection to a film or television programme can contact the Donor Access department for further information about access.
A: The bfi Information Services may also be able to help you track down a title.
A: To find out which DVDs and videos the bfi currently publishes, or to receive advance notice of releases, please see the DVD and Video section of the bfi website.
Q: Can I purchase footage from the bfi?
A: Archival Footage Sales provide access to the National Film & Television Archive for commercial clients (e.g. film and television programme makers, galleries and museums). Unfortunately, we are unable to supply copies of material to private collectors or individuals for personal use. However, you may be able to arrange a research viewing.
A: If you are mainly interested in newsreel footage, the British Universities Film and Video Council has a portal to various sites featuring archive footage.
Q: How can I purchase a still or poster?
A: Please contact bfi Stills, Posters and Designs for more information about the collection and how to purchase stills. However, note that these stills remain the property of the relevant rights-holder whose permission would in most cases be required.
