About Film Links Gateway

Film Links Gateway intends to provide a wide reaching but selective collection of websites available on the Internet, relating to film and the media both in the UK and internationally. It is researched and edited by Information Services in the bfi National Library.

The aim of FLG is to assist users in finding current and specialized information on film/TV and the media, quickly and efficiently. By using an arranged listing of headings and subheadings, users should be able to locate websites which will be directly relevant to their information needs.

Our intention is not to provide a comprehensive directory to all available sites which can be described as having some connection to film, the media and the moving image. There are numerous existing web directories or search engines which already offer this service, e.g. Yahoo and Google.

Instead, FLG views and considers each potential site with the intention of providing information which will be of most help to our users in terms of education, information, creativity, cultural diversity and current awareness. To help users identify the sites which will be most relevant to their requirements, we have provided detailed annotations which cover the main aspects of the site and the information it holds. We have focused on websites which provide free information, are educational and often hold databases and bibliographies.

Although the gateway is selective, it covers a broad subject area, ranging from the history of film and TV to genre and individual directors.

The information needs of interested individuals/students, the education community, relevant organisations, the media industry and film-makers, will all be considered in the selection.

If you would like a link from Film Links Gateway please submit your site, with the name of the site and a short description.

NB Please do not offer your site for inclusion on FLG unless it is fully operational in all aspects of the information provided. We look at sites usually within four weeks from when we are contacted. If sites are not ready at this time, they will be discarded. It is therefore in your interest to only let us know once they are completed
