Find Articles
Site comprises a vast archive of published articles dating back to 1998 from more than 300 magazines and journals. Articles are in full text and can be printed for free. Search options are either by name of publication or by subject, eg film. Once a title has been selected, each can be searched by topic and users select from the retrieved list of annotated references. Film journals include Film Comment, Film Quartlerly, Variety and Historical Journal and Film, Radio and Television.
Framework
Framework emerged in the early 70's as an in-depth academic journal, focusing on the British film sector in relation to the wider culture. Stopped publishing in 1992, but relaunched as online magazine in 1999 with an agenda to 'provide a platform for new developments in cinema and media from around the world'. Goodbye - The Journal of Contemporary Obituaries
Site of detailed but selected and 'opinionated' obituaries on a range of individuals, including those who have had careers in film and tv. eg. Billy Wilder and George C Scott. Includes a list of sources and links to similar sites. Obituaries divided into quarterly periods, individuals covered are listed and text can be directly accessed. In 2003, site goes back to deaths which occurred in 1996.
Hollywood Reporter
Website of the magazine, ‘dedicated to providing a high quality news product for both online subscribers and non-subscribers’. Headline and limited article content available for free, but users will need to subscribe for full stories. Information is updated continually and box office grosses are made available every Sunday. Areas covered include film, TV, international news, business and marketing.
Images - Journal of Film and Popular Culture
Magazine site for in-depth, analytical articles on wide ranging film topics covering all of cinema history. Also included are current reviews, archive of previous features/ reviews and option to provide reviews etc. Site includes many images and aims to increase the understanding of 'movies and popular culture because through better understanding comes increased appreciation'.
IOFilm
Scottish based online film 'zine with interviews, features and web links to Amazon for videos, publications etc. Site also holds useful if selective list of film reviews from recent years, plus DVD and video reviews. Their aim is to provide intelligent and well-written features and reviews on a site that is easily accessed and updated regularly. Contains reviews, features, interviews and a search facility.
Kinema
Established in 1993, the semi-annual Kinema publishes articles, critiques of film and media literature. It also reports on international film festivals, conferences and other important events. The journal's aim is to promote the discussion of history, theory and aesthetics of film and audio-visual media from an international perspective. Back issues dating back to Spring 1993 are fully searchable.
Kinoeye Online Journal
Site of 'A fortnightly journal of film in the New Europe'. Set up in September 2001, the site examines the 'fringes' of European film-making. Covers lesser known European film festivals, includes features and articles and explores the 'social and political implications of integrating Europe's marginalized region'. Includes photos of events and film stills.
Millenium Film Journal Index
Since 1978 the Millennium Film Journal has published articles about independent, experimental, and avant-garde cinema, video, and, more recently, works that use the newer technologies. Screen
Oxford based academic journal of film and television studies covering both contemporary and historical topics. Quarterly issues include scholarly essays, reports, debates and book reviews. Articles' long abstracts are free to view, while their full text is only available to subscriber.

The Village Voice
New York magazine The Village Voice prides itself on its 'no-holds barred reporting and criticism'. The site does not have an index of its archived film reviews, but it does feature current release reviews and an 'article search' option to search the archive for past reviews and film-related articles.
