- Financial Legislation - Screenonline
Section of the BFI educational site, Screenonline, outlining major film legislation from 1909 onwards to 2003 (date site was compiled). Mainly historical in tone, acts aimed at financing and regulating the British film industry are usefully divided into separate categories: Cinema, Content (with reference to censorship and copyright)and Financial. A brief historical profile of each area precedes concise explanations of key pieces of legislation. eg. The 1985 Film Act and Section 48 of the 1997 Finance (no. 2) Act.
Very useful and accessible overview of British film legislation, though site does not link to full text of any of the acts mentioned.- Own It
- Own It - Creative London Intellectual Property Advice Service offers free intellectual property advice for people in London engaged in creative work. Free legal contract templates, articles, podcasts and factsheets available for download. Free legal advice and a directory of useful resources and contacts across creative sectors.
- UK Copyright Service
- Since February 2000, UKCS has provided a centre for intellectual property registration in the UK. The organisation aims to provide an affordable service in terms of registering intellectual property, and to also increase the understanding of intellectual property laws. Website holds a number of factsheets on copyright, including Copyright Law in the UK, Protecting Copyright and Registering Copyright. Also has sections on Common Copyright Questions, Common Registration Questions and the option for users to register their work.
- United States Copyright Office
- Website of the United States Copyright Office, Library of Congress. Gives general information on copyright basics, registration, application forms, how to conduct a copyright search, and on legislation both US and worldwide. Also links to other Internet resources related to copyright.
- Writers' Copyright Association - UK
- The Association was set up to allow writers to protect their work online. Writers register with the association, pay a small fee per year and upload a file of the work. Users thus have documented evidence of time and date of registration. Site has useful Frequent Questions section, plus terms and conditions information, sample contracts, option to subscribe to a newsletter and links relevant for writers.
