BARB - Broadcasters' Audience Research Board Ltd.

The Broadcasters' Audience Research Board (BARB) is responsible for providing estimates of the number of people watching television. Figures are available by subscription. The site also contains news and historical information about BARB and top ten listings for each year of the organisation's existence.

Box Office Mojo

US site featuring news, reviews and business analysis including box office statistics for major releases and for major personalities.

Lumiere

Created by the European Audiovisual Observatory, the Lumiere database records admissions to films released in Europe since 1996. Users can search by title and director.

MPAA US Statistics

Multi-platform site especially useful for statistics information on US theatrical market. Holds figures up to year before current year. Also covers box office trends, opening weekend grosses, admissions, negative costs etc.

The Numbers

Useful site for tracking how films, directors, and actors have performed in the US. For example: A search for 'Jennifer Lopez' would give you the box offices for the films she's been in, with the opportunity to see the weekly or daily breakdown of how several of the most recent films faired. Plus option to cross reference this data against other films released at the same time.

Showbizdata

US based site which does have some free information, as in daily grosses and general distribution information. But for further information, user needs to subscribe. Options include job board (free), links to other job boards, development news, information on video and film releases and film festivals. Useful option to search for a film in relation to box office, company and personnel - but only with subscription. Also provides current news stories on film and TV.

UK Film Council - Statistics

Section of the Film Council website from which annual statistical publication, 'Research and Statistics Bulletin' can be accessed. The Bulletin contains a full year admissions and box office summary for the former year, (2003 in 2004) and a breakdown of distributor market shares. Plus top films in the UK for the said year, and details of UK film production. Includes tables of figures monthly and by region, and analysis.

World Wide Box Office

US site that contains rounded-up box office information on over 3000 films for the US (domestic) and overseas from 1900 onwards. Searchable by film title and year.
