Current Periodicals List

We hold over 6000 periodical titles in all. These date back to the earliest years of cinema in the 19th century. Over 300 titles are currently received, including academic, popular, industry and other titles. We hold titles from 45 different countries.

The periodicals list provides a full listing of all 300+ journal titles that the bfi National Library currently receives from all over the world.

This list contains those periodical titles which the library is currently receiving. It does not include:

• Newspapers - these are cut for relevant articles which are then either microfiched or filed, the rest of the paper is then discarded.
• Library journals - ie those journals dealing with issues specifically related to libraries and kept for staff use.The entries are arranged alphabetically by title. Information provided includes:
  • Number of issues per annum
  • Publisher's address
  • Language and Country of origin

The few journal titles which are not kept but cut for relevant information are listed separately. Following the alphabetical listing is an index by country of origin.

Due to many of our titles being fairly unusual and often published outside this country, there is sometimes a considerable delay in obtaining them. 'Current' means as up-to-date as we can provide. We are always grateful for any information that can help us identify titles that have ceased publication or have changed title or publisher.
