Charges for Special Collections services

The charges made for our services have not changed for several years, and they have now been brought into line with other charges made by the Library.

Photocopying

The general rule remains that special collections material can only be photocopied in certain circumstances, ie when copyright has been cleared and the physical condition of the document allows. Photocopying is carried out by staff and so VAT is applicable. The cost of non-script photocopying will increase to 30p per sheet from 7 April 2008.

Unpublished scripts

As long as unpublished scripts are not bound and proof of copyright clearance has been obtained, staff will provide photocopies as follows:

  • £70.50, including VAT where applicable, within 5 working days
  • £35.25, including VAT where applicable, within 10 working days
  • £88.33, including VAT where applicable, within 1 working day

Access for purposes of photography or filming

Where access is permitted, the fee is £35.25 including VAT, whether or not the material is ultimately used. An Access Agreement must be completed.

Scanning

Charges are calculated on an individual basis, depending on the use to which the scan will be put.

Research services

Where finding aids to the special collections exist, enquirers will be expected to undertake their own research. Where research is undertaken by bfi Special Collections, the following rates apply:

24 Hour Service
75.00 per hour (88.13 inc. VAT)
37.50 minimum (half hour) (44.06 inc. VAT)
Five Day Service
60.00 per hour (70.50 inc. VAT)
30.00 minimum (half hour) (35.25 inc. VAT)
Ten Day Service
30.00 per hour (35.25 inc VAT)
15.00 minimum (half hour) (17.63 inc VAT)

Prices include postage and packing where appropriate.

The bfi does not supply copyright with these materials; it is the responsibility of the user to clear rights.

Payment should be made by cheque, payable to the BFI.
