The BFI @ 75 and beyond

September 2008, Reading Room

The BFI National Library will be celebrating BFI @ 75 with a visual history of major developments that have occurred at the organisation over the past three quarters of a century.

We'll be looking at the early years and the creation of the Institute, through innovations such as the National Film Theatre, the longevity and success of the London Film Festivals and the launch of BFI Southbank. Most significantly, we'll be examining the overwhelming contribution that the BFI and its staff have made to the cultural life of the United Kingdom.

But the work of the BFI doesn't stop here. This month's display will also look to the future. Like all organisations we are constantly in a state of flux and change but we are consistent in our belief that the BFI exists to encourage the appreciation and understanding of film and television. The collections that will be on display will reflect those aims.
