Not in front of the children!
Our October/November Reading Room display took a look at children's film and television, with a focus on adapting much-loved children's books for the screen.
The inspiration behind it came from the recent release of two Famous Five adventures on BFI DVD, the forthcoming release of two Tintin live-action adaptations and September's celebration of Enid Blyton on the Mediatheque.
Once we started making the list it was hard to stop, with titles such as The Railway Children, Five Children and It, and Black Beauty evoking many staff memories and posing the question; what is it that makes a classic story worth telling, and re-telling? We don't presume to have the answers, but we do have materials that might help.
As well as the books on display, the BFI Library also holds a large number of titles on the study of children's television, its history and its social and cultural impact. Why not search our online catalogue for further inspiration?
