Group Visits

Applications for Study Visits

So we can deal with your request as quickly as possible, it would be helpful if you could supply us with the following information:

1) How many students are in the group?

This will have a bearing on what days we can offer you.

Groups of up to 14 can sometimes be accommodated on Mon/Tue/Thurs/Fri mornings.
(Please be aware that other library users will be at work and your consideration to them will be necessary).

Groups of over 14 must come on Wednesday mornings, when the library is closed to its members. We can usually handle up to a maximum of 35 students.
(Please be aware that these sessions get booked up extremely quickly).

2) What date and day of the week would you prefer?

If you can provide us with a date range, that would be helpful in case your first choice isn't available.

The library is open Monday to Friday.

3) What time can you arrive by? How long would you like to stay for?

Visits normally run from 10.30am to 1pm but we can often be flexible, particularly with small groups.

4) How will you be paying for the visit?

The cost per student is £5, which includes a £1 copycard for each student and a selection of materials on their chosen topic area (where available).

Options are:
a) Pay at Stephen Street reception by credit card
b) Students pay individually at Stephen Street reception
c) Pay by cheque made payable to BFI
d) Request an invoice to be raised and emailed directly to your finance department.

5) What are their research topics?

We require a list of students, along with their chosen research topic at least a week in advance of your visit. This enables us to be adequately prepared for your arrival.

Please be aware that we have been unable to index journals for the past year so any TV programmes or films released in the past 12 months will not have entries available on our internal database. We will try to find alternative sources for students but this is not always possible.

General information on using the library and its collections can be found at bfi.org.uk/library where you can also search the book catalogue online before your visit.

We aim to respond to requests for library visits within five working days.

We look forward to hearing from you.
