Group Visits

Group visits can be arranged to suit the requirements of the visitors (see below). These are usually arranged for Wednesday mornings, ideally for groups no larger than 25, as this is when the Reading Room is closed to the public. With the exception of A/AS-level groups, this means that the group does not have to pay to come in and use the Reading Room, we do recommend however that you book well in advance.

Visits to the library on other weekday mornings are possible, at the discretion of the Reading Room Librarian, for groups no larger than 10 in number.  These visits will be subject to the usual arrangements for visitors.

All group visits have to be booked and confirmed in advance, by contacting the Reading Room Librarian.

Libraries and other organisations

Visits can be arranged for those interested in finding out how the Library works and functions, with a glimpse at the normally closed-access basement stacks, and a display of treasures from Special Collections.

University/Colleges

If you would like your students to get an introduction in how to use the Reading Room and its resources, and to find out more about Library materials that may be of use to their studies, arrange a visit.

A/AS-level

This type of visit is becoming increasingly popular. With advance notification of what the students’ research topics related materials can be prepared by us ahead of your visit, allowing more time for study.
The charge for these visits is £50. This entitles the group to a listing of journal references for their subjects, appropriate books to be brought up from the Basement stacks, the Reading Room space to themselves and a free £5.00 copy card (worth 40 units) for the group to share. Further photocopying will be charged for as normal.

This charge is non-refundable under any circumstances and bookings can only be considered confirmed upon receipt and confirmation of payment.
