A 16+ Guide written and compiled by Ayesha Khan, Stephen Gordon and Joe Sieder

Gangsters

The definition of a gangster film is not as simple as might at first appear, because of the overlaps with crime film and film noir, neo-noir and "gangsta" , and other spin-offs and related themes. Our guide includes material which gives an overview, and then some which tackle the broader spectrum, and includes case studies on the 1930s films including Little Caesar, Public Enemy and Scarface, studies on African-American 'Hood films and some of the main UK contributions to the canon including Brighton Rock, Performance, Lock, Stock... and Sexy Beast.
