Soaps

Soap opera is an important TV genre, and this may well be the best time to be studying them as they continue to dominate ratings (well, some of them do) yet once again seem to be under threat from the new kids on the reality TV block. Who are they aimed at? Are they realistic? Do they really cover "issues" or are they filled with unlikely events and characters in order to provide cheap sensations. What of quality?
