‘The best British horror film ever made’
Presented by Studiocanal in association with BFI Gothic and in celebration of the 40th anniversary, this full restoration based on Robin Hardy’s original cut of the film will see its UK Premiere at BFI Southbank. Crucially restoring the story order to that which Hardy originally intended, and also including the performance of the song ‘Gently Johnny’, which has been missing from many versions, Studiocanal UK have restored scenes using the only known surviving print from the 1979 US release by Abraxas. Police Sergeant Neil Howie searches Summerisle, an isolated island off the coast of Scotland, for a missing girl. The locals claim she never existed, and Lord Summerisle’s insistence that Howie, a staunch Christian, embrace the pagan rituals of the island become both frustrating and horrifying as he finds evidence that the girl and many others may have been part of a sacrificial rite.
Available on Blu-ray premiere and DVD from 14 October.
