Tony Rayns on Tokyo Story and Late Autumn

Writer, film critic and programmer Tony Rayns discusses the seminal Ozu films Tokyo Story and Late Autumn. With Tokyo Story widely understood to have awarded Ozu international recognition, and Late Autumn made near the end of his life, these two films effectively bookend the evolution in Ozu’s career. Revealing plotlines, themes and production information, Rayns offers insight and analysis into two of the greatest works by this Japanese auteur. The extended runs of these features form part of the Yasujiro Ozu Season at BFI Southbank, and are playing in cinemas around the UK.
