Geoff Andrew on Psycho: A Classic in Context

BFI Southbank's Head of Film Programme Geoff Andrew breaks down the April season that celebrates the 50th anniversary of Hitchcock's masterpiece Psycho by featuring a selection of movies that arguably influenced, or bear the influence of, the 1960 thriller/horror. Making a case for the significance of German Expressionist masters like G W Pabst and Fritz Lang, Andrew also explains the relevance of crime thrillers such as the 'French Hitchcock' Henri-Georges Clouzot's Les Diaboliques and more 'distant relatives' like the Coen Brothers' Barton Fink, as well drawing parallels to Antonioni's Italian Neo-Realist classic L'Avventura.
