Fighting for Identity: Turning Struggle into Cinema

Constantin Popescu (Portrait of a Fighter as a Young Man) and Rachid Bouchareb (Outside the Law) have both brought films to the Festival that focus on characters fighting oppression within areas of historical conflict. The directors discussed their experiences of telling these stories with host David Gritten at the Fighting For Identity event, held in conjunction with Time Out. In this clip they talk about film's ability to change public opinion - with Bouchareb's 2006 film Days of Glory having helped create pension equality for Algerian soldiers.
