The Way + Q and A

Writer/Director Emilio Estevez and Actor Martin Sheen took to the BFI Southbank stage to talk to journalist Demetrios Matheou about their newest collaboration The Way, following a preview of the film.

Estevez tells us the film was shot in Spain and in sequence, starting in Saint-Jean-Pied-de-Port and wrapping at the end of the Camino, with many genuine pilgrims along the way allowing themselves to be filmed. Sheen reveals that most of these pilgrims had lost someone close to them, and began their journey not only to discover themselves, but also in reverence to their loved ones. Sheen describes the deep spiritual bond between himself and his son, and they both talk about the ease of their working relationship as well as their mutual respect.
