Walkabout + Q & A

Author Mark Salisbury talks to Nicolas Roeg, Luc Roeg and Jenny Agutter about the making of Walkabout (1971) as part of the Nicolas Roeg Season at BFI Southbank. The revered director discusses the spectrum of challenges and opportunities he experienced shooting in the Australian outback, a shoot which involved a small crew of five and featured his young family in tow. His actors reveal amusing stories of growing up on set, working with family, sleeping in the desert and scheduling the production around Edward Bond's fine script. Nicolas Roeg also discussed the third star, David Gulpilil and the genuine innocence and magic he brought to the film.
