Writer and Cinema Programmer Jason Wood, Screenwriter and Roeg Collaborator Paul Mayersberg, Film Historian Sue Harper and Editor of Sight & Sound Nick James discuss Nicolas Roeg's career at a special Sight & Sound event held at BFI Southbank.
Harper details the reasons why Roeg's creativity was able to flourish in the chaos of the 1970's financial market , also arguing that working under the freedom of the independent studio British Lion allowed Roeg to develop his own personal visual style. Mayersberg expresses his views on whether Roeg can be labelled as director who gives his films a British mark. The panelists also discuss Roeg's persuasive and passionate personality and whether Roeg can be described as an artist who is ahead of his time, or if instead he has managed to capture contemporary truths that other people have not yet become aware of.
