Jonathan Romney on Jacques Audiard Season

In January 2010, the BFI presents a comprehensive season celebrating the films of French director Jacques Audiard. This follows his 2009 film, A Prophet, taking the Best Film Award at the London Film Festival. This BFI Southbank season features all five of Audiard’s earlier works and further features he has collaborated on. Audiard’s slick, stylish crime thrillers are in keeping with a long tradition of distinguished French auteurs who have gravitated to the genre, including Renoir, Clouzot and Chabrol. To complement Audiard's work, BFI Southbank are screening a selection of diverse crime features from some of these notable French directors - exploring the diversity and manipulative nature of the thriller.
