The Market + Q&A with Ben Hopkins

Mihram is a black market trader always on the look-out for a new get-rich-quick scheme, but when he agrees to help a doctor track down replacements for some stolen drugs his luck inevitably takes a downward turn. Following a screening of this his second Turkish-set film, British director Ben Hopkins joins BFI Southbank's Head of Film Programme Geoff Andrew to discuss the critically acclaimed project. In conversation, Hopkins reveals his experiences of working in the country and why it is the perfect setting for his exploration of contemporary capitalism. He also shares the surprised revelation that, despite his best efforts, the film became his first foray into realist cinema.
