Joan Collins In Conversation

Actor Joan Collins has had a career spanning more than fifty years, and which has featured iconic roles in both film and television, most infamously that of Alexis Carrington in Dynasty. Visiting BFI Southbank as part of a season celebrating the work of her friend Paul Newman, and following a screening of a film in which they co-starred - Rally 'Round the Flag, Boys! - Joan Collins speaks here with candour about Newman and her own work. In conversation with Jason Solomons, she recounts the occasion of her first meeting with Newman, where she spotted him sharing a rather memorable couch with James Dean and Marlon Brando. She also discusses the halcyon and closing days of a studio system faced with the onset of television, her role in putting the first bikini on screen in 1954, and her shift from initial aspirations of being a 'serious' actress at RADA, to becoming the new 'it' girl in Hollywood.
