The Story of Variety with Michael Grade: After the War + Q and A

Michael Grade, a former executive at the BBC, ITV and Channel 4, started his career in show business as a variety act agent. Through those early days in talent management and his subsequent TV career, he brings a unique perspective to his two part documentary for BBC4, The Story of Variety. Following a preview screening of part one of the show at BFI Southbank, prolific comedy writer and former variety performer, Barry Cryer, was joined on stage by Michael Grade to reminisce. They recall the phenomenal revival of 'music hall' in the 70s and some of the brilliant acts to emerge in the era. There were a few who would go on to achieve lasting fame, but here they fondly remember the many who faded into obscurity when the format was no longer in fashion.
