Sarah Pucill on Maya Deren

Artist and director Sarah Pucill discusses the influence avant-garde filmmaker Maya Deren has had on her work, from a shared concern with how the female form is represented in front of the camera and a desire to challenge the male gaze to their mutual preoccupation with pushing the boundaries of what film language can achieve. The video features extracts from Deren’s At Land (1944) and Pucill’s Phantom Rhapsody (2010).
