Charles Dickens's 200th Birthday

A host of special guests visit BFI Southbank to mark the occasion of Charles Dickens's 200th birthday on 7 February 2012. Ahead of the world premiere of Dickens in London, a new film inspired by Dickens's journalistic essays, Adrian Wootton (CEO, Film London) and Martin Davidson (Chief Executive, British Council) pay tribute to the writer's enduring legacy.

Author David Nicholls then reads a passage from Great Expectations as part of global read-a-thon organised by the British Council. This event saw people in countries from all over the world read an extract from a different Dickens text, one every hour. The readings were recorded and shared via Twitter over the course of 24 hours.
