Chris & Don: A Love Story
Intimate portrait of Don Bachardy and Christopher Isherwood.
An affectionate portrait of artist Don Bachardy and his life-long love affair with novelist Christopher Isherwood. Controversally, Bachardy moved in with Isherwood when he was eighteen and his lover was in his late 40s. They met on a beach in California and remained together until the writer's death. Using personal photographs, home movies, drawings and paintings the filmmakers build a portrait of an enduring longterm gay relationship. Isherwood’s famous friends were a daunting prospect for the young lover but he learned to hold his own and developed a career as an accomplished portrait painter. Don Bachardy is a constant presence along with a cast of great names, some of whom he had met as a star struck teenager chasing autographs in Hollywood. This is a revealing, frank and moving account of one of the twentieth century's great gay couples.
