Milk
Gus van Sant's Oscar-nominated account of the life of activist Harvey Milk.
Harvey Milk was the first openly gay person elected to public office in California. This story of how his campaign galvanised the gay community in San Francisco is both inspiring and tragic. Sean Penn gives the performance of a lifetime as Harvey Milk, the guy who ran a camera shop on the Castro and changed the world. He wasn’t just a local hero. By organizing in San Francisco he helped create a sense of gay community in the Castro which was the envy of the rest of the world. Emile Hirsch gives a great performance as Harvey's right hand man Cleve Jones. A must see.
