Prater
Culminating our Ottinger retrospective a documentary following the history and modern day workings of world famous Viennese amusement park, the Prater.
This award-winning documentary completes our Ottinger retrospective. It is the perfect example of how Ottinger's voice and vision has evolved over time whilst the core themes and interests categorising all her work - fantasy, the exaggerated minutiae of everyday life, an interest in indigenous myths and cultures - are still present and relevant today. This most recent film is a look at the history of the world famous Viennese amusement park Prater.
With an old fashioned carnival atmosphere Prater became known for its technical innovation as well as outlandish attractions, such as the giant mechanical man-beast which greets patrons as they come in. Through a mixture of interviews and archive film of how the park has changed, Ottinger's unique storytelling transforms the park into a modern cinema of attractions.
